Mammal team leader Mark Bryant told the Waikato Times today that
the 0.8m tall rhino would have his usual diet of mother's
milk and hay or grass. Rhinos are weaned at two years of age.
To mark
the day, Inkosi would get extra pats from his keepers, Mr Bryant
said.
"He's a very docile sort of an animal. He's quite friendly
to us. He loves getting rub downs; he loves getting scratched on
his tummy."
The rhino weighed 50kg at birth, but his weight
now is a secret – to
be guessed in a competition at the zoo.
This much Mr Bryant could
reveal: "He rocketed off and now
he's slowing down a bit, but he's still putting on regular weight."
