"The World's Sexiest Rhino" is a mother for the 10th
time, and Memphis Zoo officials are giving the public a chance to
pick the little fellow's name.
After waiting to make sure mother and baby were healthy, zoo officials
announced this week that Tombi gave birth to a 134-pound male Jan.
29.
Tombi was a finalist in - but didn't win - Microsoft's 2001 Beast
in Show Contest to name America's favorite zoo animal. Her keepers
dubbed the 30-year-old Southern white rhinoceros the World's Sexiest
Rhino.
Through Feb. 21, visitors to the zoo's Internet site at http://www.memphiszoo.org
may vote for the baby rhino's name from a list of African-derived
names compiled by zookeepers.
Name choices are Kayin (long-awaited child), Lindani (wait or be
patient), Ali (exalted), Kobbi (born on Tuesday) and Badu (10th
born).
The unnamed male joins Tombi and father Muggs in the rhino exhibit.
The zoo's last birth of this endangered animal was in December 1998.
