Nepal plans to give Japan a pair of one-horned rhinoceros as present
of the Nepalese government and people on the occasion of Nepalese
Crown Prince Dipendra's official visit to Japan, the Ministry of
Forest and Soil Conservation said Friday.
Prince Dipendra is currently on an eight-day visit to Japan.
The forestry ministry said it hopes that the symbol of friendship
would help consolidate the cordial and friendly relations between
the two countries.
Nepal has about a third of the world's total population of 2,000
one-horned rhinos, which is classified as an endangered species.
