SOS Rhino
officially opened registration on May 1st for our 2004 fundraising
event, the Borneo Rhino Challenge. After two months, the excitement
is palpable as we promote the Challenge throughout the Chicago
area. The irony is the first two interested participants live in
Australia! Come on, Chicago, help support your local horny non-profit!
The
Challenge is a 12 day event to be held May, 2004. Trek up Mt.
Kinabalu and cycle along the northern tip of Borneo. There will
be
sites to keep you going and an opportunity, after reaching your
course goals, to take in the cultures, landscapes and unique animals
of
the great state of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo adventure capital of
South East Asia. Along the way you will get a personal introduction
to
the last of the shy hairy rhinos of Borneo.
Our goal is to secure
10 people for the event with partner, London based Save the Rhino,
bringing in another 10 for a total of 20 participants.
We are working with area health clubs such as Holmes Place, Lake
Shore Athletic Club, Gold Coast Multiplex, Lincoln Park Athletic
Club and Crunch Fitness in an effort to promote the event with
amateur athletes. We wish to thank the above mentioned clubs for
their interest
and assistance in promoting the Challenge.
The total cost of the Challenge
including airfare and ground package is $4,000. The minimum sponsorship
fee of $2,000 will go directly
to SOS Rhino’s Sumatran rhino project in Borneo. Registration
forms are available on-line at our website, www.sosrhino.org. Please
note a deposit of $400 is due at time of registration to secure your
place on the team. Credit cards are accepted.
