Kathmandu, August 16

A Rhino Conservation Coordination Committee (RCCC) has been formed in Sauraha of Chitwan, the WWF Nepal stated in a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The committee was formed following the conclusion of a two-day programme on the condition of rhino conservation.

The committee comprises six representatives of the political parties, three of the Buffer Zone Management Committee (BZMC), two of partner organisations, one representative each of the local media, Hotel Association of Nepal, FECOFUN, Community Forests, Anti Poaching Youth Awareness groups, and the Chitwan National Park.

"The Rhino Conservation Coordination Committee will review policies and recommend amendments, coordinate among conservation partners and other agencies for financial resources, monitor rhino conservation activities, and organise meetings on rhino conservation as and when necessary," the WWF Nepal said in the release.

The RCCC will also assess and review the practices of conservation at the local level, coordinate local communities and organise sensitisation workshops for indigenous people and target communities, activate the Buffer Zone Management Council, the national park, and civil society for rhino conservation, the WWF Nepal said.
