1. About Us
SOS Rhino is a non-profit, international foundation dedicated to preserving
the five rhinoceros species in their natural habitats. Our conservation programs
combine research, education, marketing and advocacy, all working collectively
to achieve sustainable results.
Through diverse stakeholder support, SOS Rhino develops and funds
rhino conservation and awareness programs appropriate to individual
countries, providing these countries with the education and tools
to build lasting rhino conservation.
It is our goal to secure a place for this ancient animal in tomorrow’s
world.

Citizen wardens’ to help curb poaching
The Sabah Wildlife Department has endorsed a regulation to allow
a selected group of people to make “citizen arrests” on
poachers who threaten the wildlife in the State for their own
gains.
Dried geckos, bear bile and rhino horns
The market for ancient medicines flourish in China
Many Westerners have tried to dismiss traditional Chinese medicine
as a witch's cauldron of false remedies and bogus aphrodisiacs.
But the truth is different, said Rob Parry-Jones of TRAFFIC, an
organization that monitors China's trade in endangered species
on behalf of groups like WWF.

UNEP Honors Dr. Annelisa Kilbourn
A Briton who championed the cause of the great apes and the rhino
before tragically dying in an air crash; an Indian whose eco-friendly
toilet is transforming the health and lives of the urban poor,
and a Lebanese journalist who has almost single-handedly brought
crucial environmental issues to the attention of the Arab world
are among this year's winners of the prestigious UNEP Global
500 Award.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
After 12 years of attending, supporting and helping to organize
our local Bowling for Rhinos event, which helps support the Lewa
Wildlife Conservancy in Isiolo, Kenya, I finally made it to Kenya
to see the rhinos we are helping first hand.

Borneo Rhino Challenge 2004
SOS RHINO and SAVE THE RHINO INTERNATIONAL invite you to climb
to the summit of Mt. Kinabalu, cycle the Northern tip of Borneo,
and help us search for the elusive Sumatran rhinoceros of Borneo.
Volunteers Needed
SOS RHINO is looking for volunteers interested in helping us in our efforts to
save the Sumatran rhinoceros. Our Borneo Team is studying the demographics
of the remaining animals in Tabin Wildlife Reserve to determine when patrol
units, habitat protection, or translocation may play a role in the rhinos'
survival.
